We’re excited and hope that Seminole will have a similar reaction. “There’s a lot of desire and excitement for Domino’s coming to the market. That restaurant will be open by the end of year and carries a similar story as Andrews with customers looking for a new pizza eatery. The next Domino’s Pizza Theater is currently being built in Seminole and will be Gerety’s 11th store to open. Gerety said in the coming months, all the existing Domino’s Pizza locations in the Permian Basin will be freshened up and re-imaged. They want customers to share in the experience of a pizza being made. The direction that the Domino’s Pizza company is headed, Gerety added, is that there is a need to expand the way they do business, and one of the ways is now offering an in-store dining experience. “We get a lot of little kids and it’s a lot of fun to see their big eyes light up when they see how a pizza is made,” he said. The concept of creating an interactive eatery is a new one and Gerety said it engages customers in the pizza experience. Instead, it’s one of the newest models, a “pizza theater,” the company is branding that provides not only the standard carry-out and delivery options but a new dining option where customers have the chance to sit at the bar counter on bar stools, view sporting events or the news on televisions or watch their pizza dough being stretched, tossed and assembled into the oven before picking it up. Gerety said they spent six weeks interviewing potential employees and held a job fair in conjunction with a B93 live radio remote in Andrews which drove a lot of interest and garnered quite a few applications from prospects. Other new businesses moving in include Dickey’s Barbecue, McDonald’s and McAlister’s Deli, and Gerety said he welcomes them because it offers those in Andrews the opportunity to try new things they haven’t had before.īut with the restaurant boom going hand-in-hand with the oil boom in the Andrews ecomony, staffing for the new Domino’s Pizza was something they were concerned with. “They were all very excited Domino’s was going to be coming to the community.”ĭomino’s Pizza is one of the many new restaurants opening in Andrews this year. “Actually, the questions were more like, ‘When?’ and ‘Why haven’t you gotten here sooner?’” Gerety said. They held a B93 Customer Summer Appreciation Event and when they met with other business owners, Andrews City Manager Glen Hackler and the chamber, they received a resounding yes to their coming into the market. So in June, Gerety began looking to expand. The only other pizza choice offered in town before Domino’s was Pizza Hut. Gerety currently owns the four stores in Midland, four in Odessa and one in Big Spring and said he knew customers were driving to Midland and Odessa for food but had no idea to what degree their customer base was.įor years, he said, a friend of he and his wife Cathy had been bugging them to open a store in Andrews. A Facebook page engaged the Andrews community where Gerety shared pictures of the store, hiring opportunities and things to come, gathering more than 2,000 likes before the store opening. One of the ways that helped push the Domino’s Pizza opening was with the help of social media, Gerety said. They were just eating up the fact that Domino’s Pizza was in Andrews.” “It’s just amazing all the familiar faces we saw. There were multiple days we would see repeat customers come in at lunch and then again at 5 p.m. “We had customers coming in every day for both lunch and dinner. “We were off in estimates by as great as $25,000 to $40,000 that we would do in the first week,” he said. Compared to a military base and the city of Andrews - with a population of roughly 11,000 - Gerety never thought they would surpass with record sales. The previous record was set four weeks before at Camp Pendleton Marine Base in California.
